Family road trips can either be really fun or really bad depending upon what vehicle you are driving. You gotta have enough space for everyone to be able to move around a bit, stretch their legs, and the cargo space for all the junk that comes along with a road trip (suitcases, food, toys, DVD, and much more). The 2015 Ford Expedition Platinum gave us the luxury, style, comfort that we needed for a family road trip to Arkansas for a wedding.
The 2015 Ford Expedition Platinum exudes luxury styling. They must have known that I love grey/silver when they dropped this beauty off. The Magnetic Metallic exterior color really draws you in then is set off by the chrome accents on the automatic retractable running boards. The leather seats just hug you as you slide in behind the wheel of this beast of a vehicle. It has always been a dream of mine to drive one of these.
The way to Arkansas we only had 4 of us in the Expedition so I was able to use the buttons to fold down the third row of seats and not have to jam our stuff in so tightly. I was able to make it on a 6.5-7 hour drive and not have to fill up the 25+ gallon tank. Now I will say that they gas mileage was pretty low with an average of 16 MPG, but that is to be expected in a way from such a large vehicle.
I assumed that the Expedition was going to be hard to drive and park by the way some people drive them around here, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled and turned and maneuvered. The ride was smooth. It really was comfortable to drive even for that long of a period of time. Yes my back hurt some, but turn on the seat warmers and it is like instant relief. I was impressed that even the second row had the heated/cooled seat option. The cooled option was a lifesaver when it decided to jump from 70 to 90 degrees in one day.
The ride home was a little more challenging since my parents had been gone for a week so they had those suitcases plus a few more bags that we brought from home for them. We made it work and played a good game of suitcase tetris to get all of our stuff home. If you are looking in to this type of vehicle and have a larger family then I would say go for the extended length one to give you extra cargo space in the rear since with the third row up there really isn’t as much as would be needed for 6 people.
I was sad to see this press vehicle go. It was everything and more than what I expected. It is what I have been looking at for my own family so that we can get past the minivan stage of life.. haha.
