Our kids have been wanting a dog for quite some time now. They like to pretend that their stuffed animals are real dogs, but alas it wasn’t so they kept asking. Now don’t get me wrong, I have wanted to get them a dog for awhile, but I also knew that it would mean a lot of work and more cleaning for me whenever we got one.
With all that our family went through last year with my cancer diagnosis and more, we were going to put off getting a dog for a while. Possibly one or two years…. But my kids and MOM kept asking if we could get one. Little Man just had his 6th birthday and while we were warming up to the idea of getting a dog, we didn’t want it to be specifically for his birthday since we knew the kids would fight over whose dog it was and then the other would want one of their own as well. I definitely didn’t want two dogs!!
Our first glimpse |
So without telling the kids, we warmed up to the idea of finally getting a dog. We knew we were going to look in a shelter, hopefully a small one and hopefully a fairly young one, and a girl. I know, maybe a little too specific, but we started looking online at one of the local shelters and started falling in love with some of the cute faces.
Who could resist this face? Bummed we had to trim her, but it will grow back 🙂 |
We were about to go look at some dogs that were just getting weaned when I decided to look at the Houston Humane Society page. Oh man, some precious faces just stood out. One in fact was named April and was the most darling all black beauty. Then two other dogs that I was going to look at, but wasn’t as sure about. When we got to the shelter, April had just been adopted. Boy was she cute. Then we looked at some of the other dogs in the puppy/small dog room including a sweet precious girl named Cinderella.

I will sleep anywhere as long as my humans are near |
Yep, that is the name she came in with… Cinderella.. She had this cute scruffy face and long legs that just touched my heart. We could only see one dog a day to help prevent spreading anything so we decided to see Cinderella. She instantly loved on my kids and was so happy and sweet. We decided quickly that she was the one. Little man wasn’t too sure because he wanted to see all the puppies more, but I knew I didn’t want to lose her.

Her new buddy is quickly getting to big to carry |
She had her spay surgery the next day and we were able to pick her up about 3 days later. Since then we have been getting to know each other, doing some house training, and learning how to live with a new little one in the house.

I love to snuggle |
Cinderella has been a great addition to our family and I am so glad that she is ours. She is slowly learning to go potty outside and she is never short on love and puppy kisses. She likes to sleep close so that she knows someone is near and is quickly growing and running faster and faster with the kids.

Just play with me you silly boy! |
She will probably wind up being bigger than we were hoping, but I don’t care. She was meant to be ours and we love her. Funny enough, my husbands first dog was named Cinder so she really does fit. So that is what we are calling Cinderella(mainly so I don’t have to be saying her full name all the time).
So next time you are thinking about getting a dog(or cat) make sure you visit your local shelters and rescue a sweet one that deserves your love.
