I can see more and more as my kids get older the importance of expanding their learning and knowledge of all types of things. Doing various crafts with them is a great way to help them learn new things and how to apply what they have learned into something tangible.

Only problem with all of this is that I am not a crafty person! Or at least I don’t have the imagination I guess to come up with different crafts for my kids to do. Green Kid Crafts offers a monthly subscription service where they send you a box of various crafts based on a theme that are all “green”. This makes me one happy momma! To have some crafts for my kids to try out without having to put it together myself is a winner in my book.

We were sent the Food Adventure box to try out. Little Man was excited to be able to some crafts at the house and not just at preschool.

For November’s Discovery Box, Green Kid Crafts partnered with Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit educating children, families and the community about eating that’s good for the body and the planet, to create a “Food Adventures” themed box with crafts celebrating healthy eating. Craft projects include making a fish game (from recycled felt), growing organic basil and alfalfa sprout gardens, and making a set of rainbow tile coasters (image attached).  In addition, Green Kid Crafts has partnered with Mambo Sprouts and some of our favorite natural food companies like Annie’s, Stonyfield, Mary’s Gone Crackers and Immaculate Baking to include samples and exclusive coupons for free healthy snacks — a $20+ value!

Each of the crafts come in a compostable or biodegradeable bag and the materials inside are usually made of recycled materials. The first one we did was making a tile coaster. Little Man really liked this one because he could sort out the tiles by color and made his own little fun pattern.

The second craft we did was planting some basil seeds in a little cup and another cup with sprout seeds. Little Man has liked watching the basil slowly sprout up and I can’t wait until it gets big enough for us to use. Next spring I want to start our own little garden at our house and have the kids help out and hopefully they will want to try some of the things we plant.

Overall we had a lot of fun trying out the different crafts, plus the box also came with coupons for various organic products. At $19.50 (includes shipping) a month for a box, I have to say that it is worth it for my kids to be able to try out different crafts plus with other samples and coupons inside it is a pretty good deal. From now until 12/15 you can take 15% off your order at Green Kids Crafts with the code BLOGGY.
