How many of you have kids who are bored with Christmas toys already? I will say that there are some things that my kids have played with a lot and continue to play with that they got for Christmas, but there are a few toys that are just sitting in the playroom closet and haven’t been touched since they were opened Christmas day. It is hard to know what you kids will really want to play with again and again. So how do you keep kids from being bored with toys?
Combating the “Bored with Christmas Toys Already” Syndrome:
- If there are some toys that your kids haven’t touched since Christmas, give them to someone else who wants or needs it. There are plenty of online classifieds where you can list things and make most of your money back. Or you could always just donate them to someone in need.
- Hide the toys for awhile and take them out of the rotation. Then every couple of months put them back out and take others ones out of rotation. Your kids will think they are almost like brand new and will find an interest in them at least for a little bit.
- Think about toy rental. Pley is a great place to go to set up a monthly online rental of toys. Your kids will get something new that they haven’t played with before and it can help you see your child’s interest in toys versus buying it brand new then they wind up never playing with it. Pley is always adding new toys and my favorite is their LEGO sets. I have bought my son several LEGO sets and after making it for the first time it just sits there. With Pley you can get a new set each month and keep it interesting. This can save you lots of money in the long run!!! Especially since Pley carries so many LEGO sets, try it before you buy it!!
- There is also the “just don’t buy so much” attitude. I know I am guilty of over-buying each year then wind up regretting it. Less really is more when it comes to kids. Rent the toys to see if your kids really like it, then if they do go buy it.
Good advice.
