I am sure there are plenty of parents who dread when summer is coming. Kids are home 24/7 and it can be draining at times to keep them entertained. This year I am actually looking forward to summer. I am looking forward to spending more time with my kids. See as they get older, it gets a bit easier to just pack up and go to the pool. the pool will be my bff this summer. My kids are old enough to swim without me having to be right there next to them “helping” them stay afloat. I can work on my mommy “tan” while keeping an eye on them from the side. They can wear themselves out now playing with dive sticks and their friends.
I am looking forward to seeing my friends more as we won’t have all the crazy school commitments like PTA and programs. Sports are done for now so no more long hours at the field on Saturdays. Summer is my reprieve from having to be everywhere all the time. The calendar is not so colored in and I can breath. Oh sure we still have things planned like VBS and hopefully a small vacation, because let’s face it I will want small breaks from time to time. But to be able to have the opportunity to just BE with my kids will be amazing.
Yes I know what you are thinking. Man she must be in some sort of rose colored dream. Don’t get me wrong I know my kids will bicker with each other and drive me crazy from time to time. I know we will all get bored and it will be too hot to just send them outside. I also know that we can do more things than we could when they were tiny little things. We can do bike rides, we can go to a museum and lots of other things and not have to worry about nap times. Honestly they entertain themselves a lot more now freeing me up to get work done or just have a few minutes to myself. They can make their own lunches now and clean up after it. I don’t have to be the one to do it all.
I am excited for the memories to be made and the time spent together. They really are growing so fast at 7 and 9. Two more wakes and our summer starts. Here is to lots of laughs, sun, and fun! Summer is Coming!!!!
