Since we moved into our new house it seems like there is always something to do and add and get. We have had to paint all the walls in the house since most of the colors were not to our taste. Since we also have a bigger house than we ever have, we just don’t have enough things for the walls. We have plenty of pictures for downstairs, but I have never really been able to paint and dress up the kids walls.
I was so happy when I was chosen to pick out some stencils from iStencils.com. They seriously have a HUGE collection of stencils in various shapes, sizes, designs and more. Since I have been wanting to do some things for the kids rooms, I decided on 3 dinosaur stencils for Little Man and 3 girly ones for Little Miss. I also choose a 2″ capital letter sheet so that I could stencil out some sayings on the walls.

I have never really stenciled so I was completely sure where to begin. I grabbed the painters tape and some small samples of paint that I got at Walmart(with $2.00 off coupons!!). It is the little Glidden tester ones. I then took a plate and a couple of sponge brushes to paint the walls.

Thank goodness for already having the base paint color! |
I should have looked online for directions before stenciling away! At first I just used the brushes that were inside the the paint samples and boy was that a big mistake!! It was way too much paint on the brush and when I pulled the stencil off, you couldn’t even make out what it was. Thankfully I had some paper towels so I quickly wiped it off AND I highly recommend having your wall color paint handy in case of touch ups or smudges!!
After looking online, I saw that I should be using as little paint as possible to help prevent the bleeding and dripping. The sponge brushes worked a lot better and didn’t bleed too much. I was pretty pleased with how they turned out. I wish the lines could have been a little sharper, but as long as you don’t stand too close then they look fine π
I only did a couple in the playroom and a few in both the kids rooms for now. I plan on doing more and also doing some lettering as well. Momma only has so much time to get things done π
If you are looking for ways to spruce up your walls or add some fun and whimsy to your kids rooms, I highly recommend getting some iStencils.com stencils. I do wish they were a bit more sturdy because some of the thinner lines were hard to do and caught on the brush at times.
I haven’t been able to do the letter stencils, but what is nice is that you can order them in various sizes ranging from 1/2″ on up. I am hoping to get a few more sizes of the font I picked out so that I can stencils some fun quotes on my kids walls.
You can see all the designs that iStencils.com offers on their website and see what fun things you could create on your walls.
