In July of last year we were finally able to purchase a home of own our. We were so excited and glad to finally have a place that belonged to us. Since we were buying a foreclosure, we knew that there would be many projects to tackle since the previous owners did not take care of the house towards the end of them living there. Also their choices in paint colors were way off from what we would want them to be.

We had set aside money to be able to do repairs and painting, but the painting alone as well as some smaller projects ate up our budget fast!! We have been doing things little by little as we get some money, but there are still plenty of projects left for us to accomplish.

I really love the whole black, grey, white scheme and this house was definitely more of a neutral pallete including the countertops. Going out and getting granite countertops put in will probably be out of our budget for quite some time!! I love the look of them, but until we are able to save up the money for them, I thought we were stuck with tan counters which clash with our paint colors.

Giani Granite to the rescue!! I have seen plenty of HGTV shows and drooled over the granite being placed in the homes, but wondered how we could have the look without the high price tag.

Giani Granite sells kits where you can paint(Yes, paint!) your countertops to look like granite at a fraction of the cost. So when I was given the chance to try out one of their kits, I was all over it!!

We went with the Bombay Black since that is the color granite I have been wanting. The steps to completing the project are fairly simple and easy, but do take many hours between coats to set. So if you are going to do it, make sure that you have a good weekend or week to get it done.

Hubby started by scrubbing the counters down well to make sure to get off all the gunk and grime that can build up.

The next step is to paint the counters the base color of black. I almost loved the look of just this!

He then layered on the three mineral colors in various patterns so as to mimic the look of granite. I kind of wish we had gone out to get some samples so that we could follow the grains and patters that naturally occur in granite.

After the mineral colors dry, he rolled on the topcoats and then we let it set for a couple of days. You do have to be careful even once it dries to not leave water on it or heavy objects for a couple of weeks.

Ours has been set and is holding up well with our regular bathroom activities. No signs of warping or peeling of any kind. My husband also painted our cabinets since we were planning to do that as well and the overall look is really nice and a complete change from what we had. We eventually plan on doing the other bathrooms and hopefully the kitchen. Though the kitchen will be hard since I am in it so much with having kids at home plus my baking business.

Overall we are pleased and definitely recommend the Giani Granite countertop kits if you can’t afford to buy granite right now. I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
