If you’re in the process of wanting to remodel your kitchen ( which we all tend to want to do from time to time ) one of the biggest things when it comes to doing so is sticking to a budget. The kitchen in particular is to be said that it’s the “heart of the home” because it’s where we spend the majority of our time entertaining friends and family, cooking meals for loved ones and enjoying the space as a whole. Here are some tips for choosing the right countertops for any budget.
One way to help you remodel your kitchen is updating your countertops. This can be a big project to undertake because there are cheap ways to do this or expensive ways but again, the key thing being that you want to stick to your budget whatever that may be. For those that are looking to go a little cheaper on their countertops, there are several options to choose from that might surprise you and the same goes for wanting to upgrade your countertops to something that will last longer despite the cost. I’ll be sharing a few to give you options to help make that decision.
Choosing the right countertops for any budget
Low Cost Options
- Ceramic Stone – If you are looking for a low cost option for your countertops, using ceramic or tile stone can help. This allows those who are creative and artistic expression to use in their kitchen. It also is one of the cheapest solutions if you want to try and save even more money to do it yourself. There are a few cons however such as regular maintaining and sealing as well as it can be harder to clean unless you put a layer of epoxy over it. Although this is probably one of the cheapest options when it comes to countertops, it does require the most time to install so you may want to hire a professional to do assist or do the entire thing.
- Laminate Counters – These have always been an inexpensive route to update your kitchen. These cost around $25 per square foot which isn’t terrible and will update your kitchen look. Some would argue that they are not the best but laminate countertops are now manufactured in more designs that you can imagine such as stone imitations that actually can impress most of your guests. They have high quality, design, material choices and colors to match your home and leave you feeling confident in your choice.
Higher Cost Options

- Cambria Countertops– This is what the industry calls materials such as silestone or cambria. These are expensive but this is where you can so many options and color choices to what you want your kitchen to look like when your vision comes to life. For instance, cambria has a total palette of more than 145 designs across nine collections. They are offered in high-gloss finish or matted and unlike other products such as quartz, cambria are non scratch, stain resistant and nonporous!
- Butcher Block– This has a true classic appeal that also complements your traditional kitchen or adds a fun conversational piece as part of your island. Spills need to be cleaned immediately to avoid stains as well as it is not heat resistant and any extreme dryness can cause it to crack so it’s extremely important if this is an option for you to use pads or trivets with hot pants. They also must be oiled often to fill in scratches and protect the surfaces.
