Just over a year ago we adopted our sweet puppy girl Cinder(ella) from the Houston Humane Society. She has become a huge part of our family. So we decided to throw her a little celebration of her one year with us with some Peanut Butter Chicken PuppieCakes. They are loaded with some of her favorite flavors and new favorite treats of Nudges® Chicken Grillers.
To start with a little back story, my kids have been wanting a dog for a long time. After my son’s 6th birthday last year we thought it would be a good time to start looking for a dog. So we pulled up the local shelters just to see what dogs they had. There were a couple at the Houston Humane Society that we wanted to see and that would be small. Well by the time we got there, two of the dogs were already claimed. There was this one scruffy little dog that we thought we might as well take her in to one of the visiting rooms to see how she reacted to the kids. Let’s just say that mommy fell in love. The kids weren’t completely sure, but I was.
Within a couple days she was ours and came home to live with us. She was so nervous the first few days, but soon enough she melded right in to our family. She grew so fast and much bigger than we had anticipated, she chewed up a lot of things, she made lots of messes, she gets in your face a LOT, but we love her and so glad she is a part of our family.
To celebrate our sweet Cinder, I decided to whip her up some Peanut Butter Chicken PupppieCakes. They are cupcakes that are dog friendly and so easy to whip up. What I love most about using the Nudges Grillers and Sizzlers in this recipe:
- Made in the USA with only USA-sourced protein
- Real Meat as #1 ingredient
- “Real food-inspired”
- No artificial flavors or fillers (natural ingredients)
- Real meaty texture, appearance & smell
- Nutrition
- Grooming
- Exercise
- High-quality treats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 12 cup muffin tin. You could use paper cupcake liners, but since it is for a dog I didn’t.
Start by placing one egg, peanut butter and two bananas in a mixer let it go until mixed through.
Chop about 6-8 Nudges Chicken Grillers.
Add in vanilla, flour, water, and Nudges Grillers to the mixer.
I use an ice cream scoop so that I get even portions for PuppieCakes and regular cupcakes 🙂 I wound up getting about 10 portions, but they were a little small so you could maybe only do 9. Bake for 20-25 minutes until set and browned. After you take them out of the oven, let them cool completely before frosting.
The frosting is super simple. It is just mixing 1/2 cup of peanut butter with 1/4 cup applesauce. Place about 1 T or so frosting on top.
To make it just a little more special, I took the Nudges Steak Grillers, split them in half, and topped the PuppieCakes.
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 bananas mashed
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 T water
- 1 cup chopped Nudges Chicken Grillers (about 6-8 treats)
- Frosting:
- 1/2 cup peanut butter
- 1/4 cup applesauce
- Nudges Steak Grillers
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 12 cup muffin pan.
- Place egg, peanut butter, and bananas in a mixer and mix until combined. Add in vanilla, flour, and chopped nudges until it comes together.
- Scoop batter with an ice cream scoop to make even portions. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Frosting: Combine 1/2 cup peanut butter with 1/4 cup unsweet applesauce then top the cooled puppiecakes. To garnish, split a Nudges Steak Grillers in half and place on top of the puppiecakes.
Cinder was a little suspicious of having “real food” since she has only ever had dog treats and dog food.
But once she had her first couple of licks, she gobbled her Peanut Butter Chicken PuppieCakes down 🙂 Love this sweet dog and can’t wait to celebrate more and more years with her. Happy One Year Adoption Cinder!
You can find Nudges Grillers and Sizzlers at Walmart to make your fur baby a treat they will surely enjoy. In the grillers, there are Steak and Chicken flavors. In the sizzlers, there are Chicken Bacon and Beef&Cheese. Cinder hasn’t met one she doesn’t like 🙂 We may have to try out the new Jerky cuts in value size too!
