This is a sponsored post on behalf of Charmin Ultra Soft at Costco and Acorn Influence. All thoughts are my own.
My best friend is in the throws of potty training right now with her first. Oh man I remember those days with my two and have shared my insights with her of what worked for my kids. But tips can only get you so far if you don’t have the proper supplies on hand and in large supply. This is where Sam’s Club comes in to play. They really have potty training supplies covered and you don’t have to worry about running out of them too quickly since potty training means messes and patience and very little leaving of the house!!
To help her out I headed to Sam’s Club to pick up some Charmin Ultra Soft. Those who have gone through potty training know how much toilet paper kids go through. Holy Moly!!! Especially on those days when they “have to go” every 5 minutes. Seriously I think they do it hoping that they get a treat each time even if they only tinkle a drop or two. Or those times that they go and just sit there, nothing comes out… but yet they have to wipe. While I am all for good hygiene.. come on kids 🙂 The Charmin comes in a 24 roll pack with a 1000 more sheets than before. That much toilet paper should last you a good amount of time.
I also got her some of the training pants for night time since he will be wearing those for awhile until he really gets the potty training down. I would also recommend flushable wipes. My kids still use them today. They prefer to use those wipes for a preclean then finish with toilet paper. I made a behind the toilet command station that holds all the supplies for easy access. The last thing you want to do is have to be running to their room to get undies when it can be just on the back of the toilet. I keep the toilet paper, flushable wipes, training pants, and lots and lots of underwear.
It would probably be smart to stock up on their favorite snack or a “treat” that will help motivate them to keep going on the potty. My kids loved chocolate candies. You could also get a prize for when they really conquer potty training and no longer have accidents. A trophy of sorts that they have graduated to being a big boy. The bathroom is now set up and ready for potty training to commence.
My biggest tip when it comes to potty training is just be patient. Some kids take to it quickly while others take a long time. I would also say be consistent. Constantly going back and forth between diapers will only confuse them. Sure diapers or training pants are needed for night time, but during the day put them in underwear when they wake up. Having a reward system of some sort is also key. It can be different for each kid. My son loved stickers to mark off a row that he had gone 7 times in the potty in a row, then he would get a bigger prize. If he filled his whole chart he got to choose a toy. My daughter was all about sweet rewards. Patience, Patience, Patience!!! They will get it on their own time table I promise. 🙂
