I have been meaning to write about my second half of this year, but as always… life gets in the way, spring break was last week, and etc etc.

I didn’t keep up with my training nearly as much as I needed to again. My body is still going through a lot. I am tired most days and just getting through everyday chores wears me out so the last thing I want to do is run and expend more energy that I just don’t have right now. Also running on the treadmill is not doing it for me this time. I just want to get out of the house and run, but there just hasn’t been the time since I have been so overwhelmed with constantly trying to play catch up with my life.

I have signed up for races this year because I want to do them, not because I am expecting myself to get back where I was before last year, not because I want a new PR, but because I just want to give myself goals to work towards. If I don’t have goals or a race that I have paid for I am much more apt to doing nothing at all and my health and moods go downhill.

The weather that morning was rather muggy, but not too hot. I am for sure not ready for the hot Texas weather that is coming soon! I felt pretty good the first couple of miles. I watched my pace and didn’t go out too fast like I usually do.

I still need to figure out what I can take while running as far as energy chews, beans or whatever that won’t make me sick. I used to use the Sport Jelly Beans, but those are just too much sugar for me now. This race I tried a B12 shot drink before the race, then a Power Gel at about mile 5 or so which I think helped me, but was still hard to get down since I don’t do squishy textures well. I faded fast after the half way point. I thought I was doing better than the last race, but at the end I was done. I should have taken one more PowerGel or something else around mile 8 because my energy was shot.

My time was 2:56ish.  Not happy with that at all.

All the smile I could muster after a tough race. I was so tired!

I have a race this weekend that is just a 10K, but other than that I have only run twice since the Woodlands Half. Then I only have another two weeks after that until my next half. I have to figure out my fueling during the race. My body can’t handle taking nothing at all. The PowerGel helped this last race, but I need something a bit more or something better tasting for sure.

Any thoughts on what I can use as fuel during my races that doesn’t taste like crap?? or too sweet??

Until the next run 🙂
