There are so many times in life where you need to be either soft or strong. Then there are other times when you need to be both. Sometimes it is hard to walk that line and know what you should be and when especially when it comes to your kids. After all, as parents we are to set the example for our kids.
More often than not I find myself overstressed, tired and just overall not feeling good. I hate that I sometimes take it out on my kids. They just seem to find all the right buttons to push that end up sending mommy over the edge. It is so hard to find that balance and structure that every kid needs so that they in turn can grow up to be strong and independent people. But also not being so structured as to be mean and rough. I try to correct their behavior as calmly as I can, but when they don’t listen it winds up escalating. I don’t want to be the “mean mommy”.
There also has to be that balance of giving them love and nurturing so that they have the compassion and heart to be beautiful while at the same time not being a total sap that they wind up walking all over me. I want them to have compassion and love and joy and if they don’t see it from me than how will they learn?
Then there are time when your child is hurt or something bad has happened to them that you wind up having to be soft and strong at the same time. Soft enough to give them that comfort they need, but strong enough to be the shoulder to cry on and have them see that everything will be all right and they can move on.
It is more work than I even imagined having kids. but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I am learning each day how to find the balance and be both soft and strong for them.
Charmin wants to know Soft or Strong? For toilet paper that is!! They want you to head over to the Charmin 2012 Election Facebook app and place your vote of whether you prefer the Ultra Soft or Ultra Strong version of their TP 🙂 Go cast your ballot before the big election and debate with others(please keep it clean..haha) about what your preference is and which one you think is the best.
