Staying healthy is one of my goals this year. I struggle with it on a daily basis, but am doing what I can by eating better, getting more exercise and simplifying my life as much as possible. One way that I am trying to improve my core strength is to do more yoga. You would be amazed at how over time simple yoga moves can improve your balance and flexibility. I have also heard that it is great for runners as well. Just because you mostly use our legs in running, you would be surprised at how much your lower abs hurt as well after a half marathon.
Ways I am Staying Healthy
Cut the Sugar– This one is tough for me. I am a sugaraolic. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I starting cutting it out. Do you know that sugar in in almost everything we eat??? This one is an ongoing process to learn how to cut it out and retrain my brain that I don’t need it.
Running- I am signed up for at least two races each month for the next couple of months. This will help keep me motivated to get off my bum.
Yoga– So after purchasing some Stayfree liners recently, I was able to sign up to get one month free of yoga on GAIAM TV. To have more classes right at my fingertips that I could watch on my iPad in my own home and not have to go to a gym is such an ideal situation for me. I don’t always have the time or extra money to go take classes somewhere. It has been a huge help in getting in some yoga any time of the day versus a set class time. You can get the same deal from now until March 12th to get you motivated again to work out since I know most of us have already broken that annual New Year’s Resolution.
Products I use to Stay Free
Reusable Water Bottles- This way I can fill my water bottle and keep it with me throughout the day. There is less waste and less cost.
Mixed Nuts- These are my lifesaver now for whenever I get hungry on the go. I always have a bag with me and it helps me get through those sugar cravings.
Stay Free Liners- These are great to keep around for whenever that lovely time of the month comes or when like me after having a hysterectomy and two kids has left my bladder not at optimal working working condition. Can we say try not to sneeze too hard..haha. And they are comfortable enough to move with you during exercise.
Wireless Headphones- Seriously if you can afford them like the Jaybird ones I use right now then do. So freeing not to have to stay right by your phone with cords. I use them all the time and not just when I am working out. Putting on some headphones while I am cleaning makes it just a little more enjoyable and easier to get through 🙂
What do you do or use to stay healthy and stay free? Leave your tips below in the comments.
This is a great post! I really love mixed nuts as a healthy snack or post-workout pick me up!
I struggle with sugar.. and bad. Do you have any tips on how you cut it out? I too am a runner, and I sign up for races to stay motivated.
I admit that I have issues with sugar and I really need to be better at just saying no! You’ve got some great tips in your post on how to help stay active, healthy, and free. Speaking of I might have to save up for a nice pair of wireless headphones like you mentioned 😉
I’ll need to look into the wireless running earphones. I currently use plantronics and they don’t stay well in my ear.
