Ford released their 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum and then planned out a several weeks long adventure that took the vehicle from Canada all the way down to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I was privileged to be able to take part in the #ExploreMore adventure from Grand Junction to Durango, CO. I have never visited Colorado before so this would be all new to me from the vehicle to the views.
Flying in to Grand Junction was breathtaking with the mountains and hills that outskirt the city. I had seen pictures of these kinds of views, but never in person. The 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with all of its upgraded features that you would want in a travel vehicle was going to be our ride for taking the scenic route in Colorado.
Here are some of what makes the 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum so great:
- 3.5L twin turbocharged EcoBoost V6 Engine.
- Class III Trailer Tow
- Rugged SUV styling
- LED low beams with LED signature lighting
- Unique 20 in wheels
- Satin chrome finish for door handles, roof rack, mirror caps, and rear applique
- Nirvana leather Multi-Contour Massaging front seats with quilted insert
- 10.1 in all digital instrument cluster
- 500 watt Sony Audio System
- Heated second row seats
- Heated and cooled front seats
- Real aluminum and ash wood appliques
- And all the tech drive features you could want
We decided to make it a girls trip with Jamie from Roubinek Reality and Betsy from Dallas Socials. Our first stop on the trip was the Colorado National Monument. Driving up the winding roads was effortless and so smooth in the Ford Explorer Platinum. I mean just take a look at how well it fit in to the rugged landscaping.
Our next couple of stops were just spectacular. Driving along the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway we hit Clark Family Orchards and picked up a little fruit, then a quick stop at Land O’ Lakes Scenic Overlook, and finally stopping in Pioneer Town. Seriously why can’t I live where there are views like this all the time?
By far my favorite part of the day was in Ouray. It is this tiny little town that is nestled in the mountains and it holds so much charm and wonder all in one place. Along Main Street we stopped at Mouse’s Chocolates & Coffee to get some coffee and they had a huge assortment of chocolate treats. I had to indulge since the smell alone was enough to do me in! We then headed to Box Canyon Falls to do a little hike to (sort of) see a loud waterfall. We couldn’t really see much of it, but the surrounding area was fun to explore.
We didn’t get to hit very many sites after this since the Million Dollar Highway was under construction and we were in traffic for a couple of hours. Parts of it were quite breathtaking and a little nauseating being that some of the drop offs from the side of the road were crazy steep with no guardrails!! The 216 Ford Explorer Platinum helped keep us on the roads with the 360 degree camera so we could see how close to the edges we were, lane keep assist, and blind spot information system.
I still can’t believe we were able to see so many sites in just one day and really be able to get out there and explore in a vehicle that embodies amazing technology and premium quality in so many facets of its design. Thanks Ford for sending me on an amazing adventure and truly be able to #ExploreMore around Colorado.

Wow. Great pics and awesome vehicle.
