Mazda is slowly becoming one of my top favorites to drive. Of course my all time fave is the MX-5 Miata, but the sporty and speedy Mazda3 5-door hatchback is high on the list as well. It all starts with the exterior design of the body. Mazda has done a great job with the lines and beauty of their vehicles. The sporty look starts with their signature grill and follows along the lights and swoops down the side of the car. The hatchback version of the 2016 Mazda3 Grand Touring appeals to a different crowd than the regular 4-door sedan. It is a bit of a toss up to me. I would have to compare trunk space on both to see which one offers the most based on each look.
I am a huge fan of the dual tone leather that Mazda uses in a lot of their vehicles. For one, the lighter leather does not get nearly as hot as the darker counterparts. Living in Texas and having this vehicle during the summer has taught me that in most vehicles I don’t want leather in my next vehicle. They can get so incredibly hot so I was surprised when the Mazda3 dual tone seats did not burn me! Yay for smart features. My kids were happy when it cooled down so much faster after soccer camp with the lighter leather offering.
In an age of technology when it can be so complicated, the Mazda3 boasts a fairly simple interior and features. It has just enough buttons and dials to get the job done without complex or hidden features. I like the turn dial on the center console to control the radio and navigation system. There is no reaching far to change a setting. It is all comfortably within reach as you drive.
The directional headlights amaze me every time I have a vehicle with this option. It really helps when you are in a vehicle that is low to the ground to give you light as you make a turn.
The way the 2016 Mazda3 was set up and how the seats were positioned made me wish that it was a manual transmission. It is just the kind of vehicle that you want to really drive and experience how the car handles and performs. It screamed “It’s Drive Time”!! The kids had plenty of room in the rear. It was a smooth comfortable ride with plenty of pep. I didn’t notice a whole lot of changes from last years model. I give this one a big thumbs up for being family friendly and affordable. It has just the right amount of features and style.
