I think we all know that baking soda is used in baking. It gives whatever you are making the rise it needs to be fluffy and light. I know I use it in many of my recipes including cakes and cookies. Baking soda is an absolute staple in my household.

But do you know that it can be used for so much more? Have you ever thought of using it for cleaning, a mouth rinse or how about a face scrub?
I was sent a list of some different ways to use baking soda besides just in baking. I have used it before to scrub some of my baking pans that have gotten some of that gunk from the baking spray. I made a little paste of the baking soda with just a little water then used a sponge to give the pans a good scrub. Man what a difference! I still had to use some good elbow grease, but my pans looked so much better and cleaner.
I have also used baking soda in my microwave. Why you ask? Well my son decided to make himself a waffle and instead of 20 seconds, he did 20 minutes. After about 2 or so I smelled something burning. Holy moly our microwave smelled horrible!! I did a couple of rounds of putting fresh boxes of baking soda and letting it sit overnight and it really soaked up the burnt smell. Now you would never know what happened in the microwave!!
Baking soda can also be used as an exfoliant for your face or anywhere else on your body. Take about 3 parts Arm & Hammer Baking Soda to one part water. Scrub your face in a gentle circular motion and rinse thoroughly. This is one I really want to try out. My face gets such dry spots.
One way that I use baking soda most often besides in baking is leaving one open in my fridge to help keep it smelling fresh. With the holidays approaching I know we are going to have all kinds of food coming in and out of the fridge. The last thing I want is to have my fridge smelling funky from some foods. Who would want their butter that you are going to use in cookies to smell like the onions that you cooked last night?/ NOT ME!!
One of the tips that I was sent that I will be using for Christmas is to take baking soda and spread it out leading up to your Christmas tree. Make some tracks in the baking soda like “Santa has been here” so the kids will have something fun to wake up to. Then you can easily vacuum it up. Why not freshen your carpet a bit while doing something fun for the kiddos.
It is amazing to think all the things that baking soda can do besides just baking in your everyday life. What is great is that it will also save you money as compared to other cleaners and fresheners that you buy. I always have a box or two extra around as a just in case.
