I love to bake. Ever since I was a little girl, it has been such a love of mine. Why I didn’t go to pastry school, I don’t know but one day I am hoping to get some classes in so that I can learn so much more. I do own a home baking business so I am slowly working my way to learning new things and be able to bake all kinds of delectible treats.

My only problem though is that I am not overly artistic to come up with themed treats. I try, but they usually look like a 2 year old did them. One day I am hoping to have a steady hand and more creativity. In the meanwhile, there are plenty of books to help me with my creativity and maybe even get my kids to help out as they get a little older.

Dessert Designer: Creations You Can Make and Eat! by Dana Meachen Rau shows you how you can make fun cute treats and you don’t even have to bake them!!!
I like how the book shows you what tools you will need to  make the different fun and whimsical treats and the best part is that you can take store bought foods and transform them into something designer. For each item, there is a list of supplies you will need as well as step by step instructions on how to make them.
I know the basics of icing making and have a lot of the supplies already on hand. I had some leftover oreos that I had from a cupcake recipe, so I decided to try out the ladybug oreos. I had just finished up some iced sugar cookies so I also already had some royal icing ready to go, but if you don’t have it you can always buy the tubes of icing at the store.

The ladybugs were really easy to make and would be fun for either a spring party or ladybug themed birthday party. I forgot to put the black dots on the eyes, but I think they are still pretty cute. You can make their wings just about any color. I used the pull apart twizzlers for their legs. So fun and the kids even helped with a few of the steps. You can make it a fun game by having them count the number of legs or dots and have them point out which colors were used.
I am in love with this book and it has given me lots of inspiration for future parties and treats that I want to offer in my baking business. I try and find inspiration wherever I can and this book will be one that stays out so I can reference it.
