Being from Texas and living here my whole life, this state really has my heart. So when the opportunity arose to drive a truck that was built in Texas, I knew that this truck would have some Texas heart and toughness weaved through every part of it. The 2018 Toyota Tundra TRD Limited Crewmax is a truck built for off-roading, but fits right in running errands at Target too.
I am a truck lover through and through and the Tundra TRD Limited Crewmax ticks all of my boxes.
I love the rugged look of the outside. It is lifted so that it can clear rocks for when you want to go on those off the beaten path adventures. It was a little hard for my kids(and myself) to get in without any side rails though. The Cement color that you can only get on the TRD editions is more of a creamy color versus most metallic colors that are on cars. The color makes it non-flashy or overdone.
The Crewmax size of the truck means that you get more interior room and tons of legroom. My husband has their other version of cab and there are times when the second row just seems too small. In the crew cab, there is room for three adults to sit across the back and ample leg room. The bed is smaller in this version. It is still a decent size bed of around 5.5 feet. I was a little surprised that this one didn’t come with a bed liner. There were lots of scratches in the paint and even some rust at one of the bolts. This could have been due to previous use, but was still surprising to see nonetheless.
One interior feature that I would like to point out is the way the rear seats lift up. There are some versions that have a storage box under the back seats, but this one when you lift the seats it has an almost flat load floor. When I drive a truck, I don’t like to put my groceries in the bed. I prefer to put them in the cab, but that is not always easy when there is a storage box. The almost flat load floor allows you to load groceries and even a TV inside the cab versus in the bed. It keeps your stuff more secure inside and keeps groceries cool.
The TRD Off-Road package includes update to the wheels, tires, shocks, and more sot hat you can crawl over the rocks and up the steep hills. All of the 2018 models for Toyota come with the Toyota Safety Sense standard. This includes pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert, sway warning, auto high beams, and dynamic radar cruise control.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to necessarily take this truck off-roading. Some of the features built in work for colder climates and snow, or even driving down the beach.
