It has been so much fun coming up with cheap family fun ideas and this week is no exception. We were sent the movie Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb to watch and what better way to make it a fun night with family activity than to make our own cars for a Drive In Movie Night!! It is really easy to do and costs next to nothing really.

Drive In Movie Night

My husband works at a restaurant so they get in boxes all the time of all sizes, but I am sure you can find free if not cheap ones somewhere as well. We have lots of art supplies in our house especially after little man’s painting birthday party. No extra paint was needed. I have plenty of small paper plates left over from birthday parties as well.

Supplies Needed:

Cardboard box

Glue

Paint

Markers

5 small paper plates

We cut off the top flaps of the boxes because they just get in the way, then we all painted the outside of our boxes to look as much like cars as the kids could do. I even got in on the fun and painted my own car! Once everything is painted on the outside you can then glue the wheels and steering wheel(small paper plates) on. You can customize the cars further is letter stickers for names or just use a marker since if you are like our family you have tons of those laying around. You could go super detailed and make a dashboard as well.

While we were making our cars we watched Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. We all loved the movie. There are times when the humor is over kids heads, but it is a fantastic movie for all ages. I love that it is a movie the whole family can watch and really enjoy. Even Flat Dexter got in on the action of riding in my car! Once we finished with our cars, we watched the rest of the movie with popcorn in hand. The ultimate movie night snack 🙂
