With Easter just under a week away, I wanted to do some crafts with the kids. We just finished up some Easter Crafts with shrinky dinks, but I wanted a craft to have a craft that will help the kids really understand the reason we celebrate Easter and that is Jesus dying on the Cross and rising again 3 days later!!! In that spirit, we made some Crosses using Imperial Sugar sugar cubes.
This has to be one of the easiest crafts ever and I love that it can help the kids learn on several levels. Most importantly they learn about the cross and why there is even Easter celebrations. Yes, the bunny and egg hunts are fun, but I want my kids to know Jesus and how he died for our sins. Secondly they can learn counting as well as motor skills of helping stack the sugar cubes.
You start by getting 16 sugar cubes(we had the mini ones) and “glueing” them together in a square on a plate or board. I used frosting that I had just made for a baking order, but you can use royal icing or even real glue. I don’t plan on letting my kids eat them so I could have used real glue, but since I already had frosting made it was a simple decision. I used this opportunity to get the kids to help count out the sugar cubes we needed to use. They also loved squishing the frosting in between all the cubes.

I then put the plate in the fridge to set. While it was setting, we stacked two rows of 6 sugar cubes to make a tower and then added two cubes on the side of the 5th row to create the cross. The frosting that squished out I spread along the outside of the cross to help it set and give it more staying power. We then glued the cross to the sugar cube base. I added a little fake grass around the bottom on the cross.

The kids had fun making the Easter crosses and I loved that it gave us the time to tell the Easter story. These were so easy to make and could be decorated in many different ways. After you are done, check out the Imperial Sugar website for more Kid’s Kitchen Easter craft ideas.
I was compensated for this post by Imperial Sugar, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
