As you may have noticed I have been a bit absent from the blog lately. I have taken on a part time job, well a little more than part time, and the hours that I used to have to clean house, workout, and cook have just vanished. I have been blessed to have been able to work from home for so many years doing odds and ends jobs, but we now need me to work outside of the house. I miss going to the kickboxing gym! So since I now have to find ways to workout at home when I have a few spare minutes, I figured I would tell you all about my home workout tips for the busy mom.
Home Workout Tips for the Busy Mom
- The first tip is carve out time for yourself, whether it is getting up 20 minutes earlier than your normal alarm or staying up an extra 20 minutes after the kids go to bed. I know this isn’t always easy because let’s face it, we are exhausted. Getting up earlier is what I have chosen. At the end of the day after work, soccer, and mom duties I just don’t have the desire to then workout. Although I do love working out just before bed because then I can just take a quick shower and crash into bed. Find those moments that you can reclaim for yourself and do some yoga or stretching if you don’t have time for a full workout.
- Next tip is find equipment that can do a variety of tasks. I was sent the Core Max total body training system. It is compact, but offers a variety of workouts with three levels of resistance that work your core as well as other muscles. The best part is that you don’t have to spend hours upon hours using it to see results. With the Core Max I can do a quick 10-15 minute session right before bed or when I wake up of situps, pushups, bridges and more that work many areas of my body. You get resistance both ways on the “arms” so you get more training done in half the time. Don’t forget that you can also use things around your house like chairs to do tricep dips, do squats or lunges while you vacuum, take empty milk jugs and fill with water to use as weights.
- Another home workout tip for the busy mom is water. Yes I know we hear this ALL the time, but so often we get so busy we forget to hydrate. I know at work for MDO I bring drinks, but they often get left in my bag because I just get so busy with the kids. When I get to the car pick up line for school is when I regroup and catch up on my water intake. Little sips will help your body get back in balance and often take away headaches that have creeped up. Get a water bottle that keeps your water cold all day, make it cute with a vinyl sticker, and drink it down!
- My last tip is listen. Listen to your body. If it is achy and tired, give it rest. If it has been a long time since you last worked out, take it slow. The worst thing you can do is go full force and then burn out quickly. Add in one new routine or extra five minutes to your workout weekly until you are ready for more. Soon enough you will have more energy and be able to do a longer, harder workout that will help you tackle all that mom life throws at you.
What are some tips and tricks that you have for working out at home? If you haven’t already, check out the Core Max total body system and see how it can help you in your home fitness goals. It retails for around $59.99 which is a great deal for all that I can do for you without taking up tons of space in your room.
Great advice!
