Ever since we bought our house three years ago, keeping our house at a good temp has not been easy. For one our thermostat is upstairs and boy does that upstairs get warm! We also had an outdated thermostat that was not programmable and I believe it was not reading the house temp very well anymore. I have had my eye on getting a Nest Thermostat, but just wasn’t completely sure it was what our house needed right now. Boy was I wrong. Want to know how best to control your temperature? The Nest learning smart thermostat not only will keep your house at a more consistent temperature it can also be programmed for when you are out of the house with the connected with the app. I am home a lot since I work from home, but there are times that we are gone and we should be saving some energy by increasing the house temperature. But that would mean heading upstairs to turn the A/C down and really I have other things I am thinking about when I am trying to head out of the door. By installing the Nest Smart Thermostat and programming it with what we would like the temp to be while we are away, I can just go to the Nest app on my phone and click AWAY.

Installing the Nest was fairly easy. It comes with labels so as you are taking the old thermostat away you can label the wires so it makes it easy to connect the Nest with little effort. Really I could have done it myself, but left that job up to my hubs. In less than 5 minutes we had it up and running.

Our WIFI signal makes it up to the upstairs of our house, but just barely. So we installed a Netgear® Nighthawk™ DST Router and DST Adapter that we were able to plug in upstairs to boost the signal to the Nest. I can also now use my WiFi outside on our driveway so I can work while the kids play in the front yard.

The Nest will pay for itself soon enough when our electricity bill starts to lower if we are raising the house temp while we are not there. It also lowers the temp more efficiently that other thermostats by giving you an estimated time that the house will be cooled to your desired temp.
