The month of April is a busy time for birthdays for our family and friends that means I need to start looking for fun gifts, but sometimes I am just at a loss when it comes to buying gifts for other peoples’ kids. I know my own fairly well, but what do I get for someone else? Here are a few ideas for kids birthday gifts that I have come up with that are sure to please the child and parent!

Ideas for Kids Birthday Gifts
- Build-a-Bear gift certificate. When my daughter turned 5 we took her to get her first Build-A-Bear. It was a way for her to choose for herself what animal she wanted to get and personalize it with clothes and accessories. Kids love when they have control and choices on what they get to pick out. It gives them a sense of pride that they created something all their own.
- Cash is king. No really it is. My son got more money than gifts at his last party and he was in heaven. It was also a teaching lesson for us on being responsible with the money, having a budget of what all he could buy, and figuring out wants versus needs when it came to toys.
- Subscription to toy rental company like Pley. You have heard me talk about it before, but Pley is a fabulous alternative to buying one single toy. They have different levels of subscriptions so that you can do one toy or many per month that the child can play with and figure out if it is really something you would want to buy for the house as a permanent toy.
- Magazine. Once kids start to read, getting a monthly magazine subscription is a fun way for them to receive their own mail as well as having fun and new things to read about each month. My son gets one sports one and one animal one. He gets to read about his favorite things and learn all kinds of new fact about animals and bugs.

The thing to keep in mind is that you don’t have to go out and get an elaborate gift for kids birthday. Kids like when they get items that they can choose for themselves. Sure it is fun to see them unwrap a big gift, but giving them control is empowering to them. Gifting a service like Pley also gives them a variety when it comes to what they can play with at their own home. Pley offers such a large variety now and I love that they have LEGO and other types of toys that really get kids thinking while they play.
