My family and I had the privilege of seeing Inside Out at a press screening this past week and I am excited to share about it with you.
It can be so hard for kids or even adults to really express what they are feeling and more often than not, we are expected to be strong and happy all the time. For the most part kids are usually pretty happy and they remember those happy times. It is as they grow that their personalities are being shaped and experiences they have and the emotions they feel during those experiences help them take certain paths in life.
Inside Out is a movie about a little girl (Riley) and how the emotions inside her help take her through a move with her family, but it is so much more than that. Joy is truly a delight and it made us all realize that joy is really what should be the driving force in us everyday. When we are happy then life is more enjoyable. But at the same time, we must realize that we are going to have other emotions and other feelings throughout the day, and even in the same moment we can have many emotions. Things don’t have to be just joyful, they can encompass many emotions all in one moment. Those are the moments that truly shape us and help us become a well rounded person.
I liked how they took the character of Sadness and how most of us would want to avoid sad situations and not have that feeling in our life. But she was a significant part of the story line, more than she even knew. It made me realize that it is ok to be sad at times. We can be allowed to break down and miss certain situations or old friends or grieve when we lose something. We don’t always have to be strong. By having a weak moment and being sad it helps break down the walls.
There is plenty of humor and great moments in the movie. Pixar has outdone themselves with this movie. It is one that can appeal to just about any age. Younger kids see the fun and excitement in it where as with older kids it can help bring out the conversation about emotions and what they mean and how kids feel in different situations. I love this movie and I can’t wait to watch it again. It is rate PG I think because there are a few scenes that kids might see as a little scary with a massive clown that haunts part of it. My kids are 5 and 7 and had no problem with the movie.
Thanks Pixar for an amazing movie that is sure delight and help us all realize that emotions are a normal part of life. Go see it as soon as you can!!
