Being that I have lived in Texas my whole life it probably would have done me some good if I had learned Spanish before now. In high school, I took French since that was the only course offered at the time, but I now wish it had been Spanish. After working in the restaurant industry for many years, it would have made it easier to communicate with people who worked in the kitchen. The Pimsleur Approach Gold Edition Spanish I course is now my key to learning the spoken Spanish language in a whole new way. Each course is broken down in to 30 minute increments. They do it this way so that you are not overwhelmed with hours and hours of learning in one sitting. This also makes it easier to repeat lessons until you have mastered them. Now their lessons start differently than you might expect. They don’t start at the very basics and have you gradually learn from there. You start with learning what you might typically say to someone when you first meet them. Pardon, Sir or Ma’am, Do you speak English or Spanish. Then the lesson has you repeat the phrases then breaks them down so you repeat the individually words. When you speak them out loud it is supposed to help you remember them more and also so you can work on how you say them and not just what you are saying. The next lessons build on what you just learned and adds in a few more words each time. Repeating over and over until you master each section.

The only thing I didn’t like is that you don’t have a visual reference of what you are saying only a spoken one. I am a visual learner. When I want to remember something I need to write it over and over for it to really stick in my brain. Also you have to make sure that you have no other distractions in the room since it can really mess with your comprehension of the lessons as well as your accent in saying the words correctly. I can see how this is a great course if you are just looking to learn how to speak the language and not necessarily be able to write and read it. I definitely need more practice and to go over the lessons more when my kids aren’t around 🙂 Since it was rather difficult to comprehend with their chatter in the background! Overall it is a great course and I can’t wait to practice it more so that I can understand those that live around me more 🙂

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
