I was invited to a free luncheon on behalf of Mama Fu’s, but all opinions are my own.

With two younger kids around when our family goes out to eat, we need something that is family friendly, that we can get in and out of sometimes quickly, and has good food. I had heard about Mama Fu’s from my sister in law who lives in Austin. They just rave over it, but I had never had a chance to try it when we have gone to visit them.

Light and crunchy calamari was just divine. Not heavy or greasy.

Lucky us when I heard that Mama Fu’s Asian House just opened their first location in Houston in November 2013!!! Now this location isn’t exactly close to me, but if I am ever on that side of town I will be eating there. Located on West Gray in the River Oaks District, I have to say they picked a great location to introduce the concept to the Houston market.

The Austin based concept is really catching on with restauranteur Steve Chappelear blazing the way in the Houston market with a proposed 18 new locations over the next 10 years. I am sure hoping that they decide to bring it out to the Kingwood area, because I know it would do so well.

With more of a counter service during the day, you can get in and out quickly for lunch. After 3 pm M-F and all day Saturday and Sunday, the restaurant turns into full service. This is great for families either wanting a quick lunch during the day or a little more service at night with still being quick.

As you can see I didn’t like their desserts. The dessert roll was by far my favorite and could have eaten several orders of it 🙂

I was really impressed at the flavors and freshness that each dish we sampled had to offer. You could tell that they get their produce in each day. Another huge selling point is that you can customize your dish by either taking away ingredients or adding things in that you like. With protein choices like pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, and tofu they provide a choice for all tastes. I was also impressed with the selection of Gluten Free options. To have a menu up front offering gluten free options makes me one happy girl. And it is not just one or two items like some restaurants.

To top it all off they have a rewards card called FUnatics Club. Each purchase that you log will earn you cash back. So for every $100 you spend, you get $10 to use and you can decide to use it right away or save up for a later purchase. So you get great, fast, fresh food plus rewards!!

I am excited for them to open more and more of these locations. It is a great concept and I can see if appealing to so many people and families.Check out Mama Fu’s River Oaks for more details.
