I was worried about getting our taxes done this year. I have a baking business and this blog and was worried that I was going to totally screw things up and I was going to miss out on deductions. Overall, I was crazy stressed and being that I didn’t really keep up with my “numbers”, I felt like actually getting my taxes done were going to take days on end.
I guess the only good about last year is that I did keep emails of orders and was able to go back through my Paypal and bank statements to be able to pull my sales and costs. One thing I didn’t track very well was my spending at the grocery store.
My goal for this next year is to keep on top of things and really keep track of my spending. One thing is my sales are plummeting for my baking business and I just don’t have as much time as I would like for the blog to keep up the volume that I did last year. I am a little bummed, but have been brainstorming ways to increase sales!
Back to taxes, my husband has done our taxes since it is pretty much himself since I have not had a “steady/full time” paying job for quite a few years since I have been raising my babies. But with the blog bringing in a little money and my baking business as well as buying a house, I knew we had more things to tackle and worry about this year.
Wagner Grams of Relax 4 Tax is a local tax specialist who is here to help you relax, sit back and let him help you with all your tax preparation needs. I went to his office last week and while the office is small, there was a warm greeting and I instantly felt comfortable. He is professional and knowledgeable. I thought I would scare him away with all my jumbled paperwork, but thankfully I had put it in enough order that he was able to sift through it and pull the numbers that he needed to be able to give me a basic picture of what my tax return would entail.
With all of my expenses and costs, my businesses pretty much came to an even wash of not making any profit. While that bums me out, I had a feeling that it would be the case. Our session took just about an hour and Wagner was able to put me at ease that I had actually gathered enough information to be able to get my taxes ready to go and filed. While he is able to file your taxes at a fee, we decided to just file on our own since we didn’t have an overly complicated return.
Wagner seems like he is fairly well informed when it comes to doing taxes and had good insight on what deductions to take. He gave me good advice on that I need to keep business and personal a little more separate so that I can get a better hold on what I am spending and so that next year isn’t quite so harried to pull my numbers together.
If I become uber busy and successful this year, I may just have to call on Wagner at Relax 4 Tax next year to help me sort through the numbers and get that big tax return flowing!!
If you are from the Houston Area and are looking for someone to help you file your taxes or get some business and financial planning advice, then i recommend calling Wagner seeing what he can do for you.
