Anyone with kids knows just how tired you can be at the end of the day. They will seem to find any excuse to keep from going to sleep. “I need a drink”, “I have to go to the bathroom”, “Read me another story” are all phrases we have heard over and over again. Sometimes you wonder what they will come up with next, but eventually they sleep all cuddled in the beds wrapped up in their blankets.
How would you feel if you were a farmer who had worked a long day and your SHEEP just won’t go to sleep??!! In the fun and whimsical book by Bruce Arant, Simpson’s Sheep Won’t Go To Sleep!, we are taken through the plight of a farmer whose sheep that are so much like kids will find any excuse to not go to sleep.
This book is such an easy read with its rhyming lines that your kids will want to read it over and over at bedtime. The farmer listens to all the excuses the sheep give and it makes him even more tired. Then one day he remembers that it is his wife’s birthday. While out shopping for her, he also sees something that just might help the sheep sleep.
He brings them back some blankets and low and behold it works like a charm and his sheep finally sleep. I love reading books like this to my kids that helps them hear rhyming sounds and words. It is a silly book, but can help teach your kids sounds at the same time. The illustrations are simple and go along with the story so well. It sure makes you feel sorry for the poor farmer and us parents know all too well how it feels.
