SodaStream Review

We have cut back a lot on sodas around here lately. For one, we(as in me) have been trying to eat/drink/life healthier. For two, on the limited budget that we have, sodas were one thing we could at least partially cut down on costs.
I had heard that there were products on the market where you could make your own at home, but have never fully looked in to it until recently when I heard about Sodastream.  I was sent a Sodastream maker and several syrups to try out.
A little about Sodastream:

Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a
variety of colors and silhouettes, you’ll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any decor.

When I first got the system, I thought it was going to be hard to put together and use, but it was actually very simple and very easy.
Here are the steps:
  • Fill the bottle with water and chill
  • Attach the carbonator on the back portion
  • Attach the water bottle to the front portion
  • Push the button on top at least 3 times
  • Unscrew the water bottle and add the syrup
  • Put on the top and gently shake to distribute the syrup
  • Open and Enjoy!!

It really was that easy and quick. I was also impressed with how cost effective the whole system is. Yes, it can be a bit of a cost factor right up front at with the base model start up kit being $79.95 and going up from there dependant upon which model you buy, plus you will need to buy syrups on top of that. But when you look at what sodas can cost you throughout the year, it really is a great value. Also, the cost per can is only about .25 cents!!

I wasn’t a fan of some of the flavors and it does take some tinkering to get the balance of syrup to water. Also, I noticed that it didn’t keep as much of the fizz on the second day. Since the bottle are only 1 liter than it really is about the right size so you don’t usually have it more than one day.

I like that is is better for the environment as far as not having the waste of bottle or cans once you are done with soda. You just wash and reuse for up to 2 years. And when the carbonator is used up, you can take it back to the store to swap it out and the others get recycled.

I was sent the Sodastream system to review, but all opinions are 100% mine.
