Target One Million with Shell- How Efficient Are You? Plus a Giveaway

I will admit it. Having kids around, I have become less conscious of my car and making sure that I am doing everything possible to keep it running smoothly and efficiently. With kids comes lots of stuff and that stuff can weigh down your car. Thankfully since my kids are getting bigger we are having to carry less around on a daily basis. I also try to take my car in for each service when it is time, but I am sure there is more that I can be doing to make sure I am not wasting gas and therefore not wasting money.

Several ways that you can make sure your car is performing at it best is with these great tips from Shell:

Maintenance: Perform small maintenance before you drive. This can be taking extra stuff out of your trunk that is not needed. Check your tire pressure. 
Actions: Practice smart while you are driving. This includes driving the speed limit, taking off slowly to increase your speed and not gunning the gas pedal.
Products: Purchase smart products and services without sacrificing price or quality. 

Shell has recently start an initiative called Target One Million, where they want to educate people on how to become more fuel efficient and be better to their wallet. To help, they have a fun interactive online game called “Shell Smarter Driving Challenge” where you can test your knowledge and skills and learn that with just a few changes, you can make your fuel dollar stretch farther than it ever has before.

I wasn’t able to make it, but Shell had their Eco-Marathon Americas this past weekend in Houston where the most fuel efficient couple, John and Helen Taylor, shared their insight on fuel efficiency. I took the challenge and I tough I didn’t do too bad, but I am sure there are ways that I could improve my fuel efficiency. Since having kids, I do drive a lot slower than I did before, but the Taylors recommend that I drive just a bit slower. Going at the speed limit or slightly lower instead of always going about 5 over like I do now. Here is a video they made for me to help give me a few tips.

I live in a city that is very car centric so having all these tips plus learning how much we really are dependent on cars here has been a eye opener. After all, people in my city drive more annually than those of Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Boston and New York. Wow!

    i took the challenge to drive slower but it sure is hard! Ha but there are alot of cops out these days so thats even more motivation to slow down and be more cautious<br /> with precious children in the car too!!
