Texas is a big state that I am proud to call my home. I have lived here my whole life and have discovered many Texas products over the years. Being that it is such a big state, there are plenty of companies and homegrown products that I have yet to get my hands on. Ozarka® was kind enough to send me a box filled with some unique Texas based products which in turn inspired some Texas recipes.
There were a couple of the products in the box that really inspired me one night to create a couple of perfect Texas recipes. I had just picked up a salmon fillet, already had some butternut squash in the fridge, and decided to go for a simple dinner menu.
There was a tiny jar of Sweet and Tangy Mustard Seeds from Taste Elevated which had a good balance of flavor that would compliment the salmon. I used it just like a marinade and sauce in one. I added just a touch of coconut aminos and fish sauce to bring in a salty bite as well as some lemon juice for a little acid.
I then cooked the whole salmon fillet and sauce in an ovenproof glass dish. The flavors blended into the salmon and created a simple yet satisfying meal. I roasted butternut squash seasoned with Spice Kings- The Juicy Steak Beef rub. The rub can be used for more than just on meat. It brought a spicy kick to the roasted butternut squash that made the perfect Texas recipe! (Recipe Below)
Some of my other favorites in the box were the Paqui Tortilla Chips which I made a chunky peach guacamole to accompany. You can make your salsa/guacamole light since the Paqui chips have some good seasoning and spice to them. The Yellowbird hot sauce is also a family favorite. My husband’s restaurant just started using this sauce for their spicy burgers. It offers a balanced, but firm kick.
I could go on and on about the many products that come out of Texas and just how they inspire so many Texas recipes. Let’s not forget the Ozarka® Brand Natural Spring Water does as well. The water comes from three Texas springs. I bet you didn’t know that! It is a satisfying drink on those hot summer days. I love that Ozarka started this initiative to remind of the love I have for my big state. Want to see more posts?
