So what comes to mind when you hear “Springbok”? Does it spark thoughts of Rugby and South Africa? Do you think about the animal?
Well for me, it now says rugged, rugby, and amazing food and atmosphere. I was invited to a pre-opening launch party to experience all that The Springkbok Houston has to offer. We will feature a contemporary take on classic South African cuisine by Chef Seth Greenburg.
As you first walk in, you are warmly wrapped in the dark rugged walls that hold framed rugby jerseys from various teams and years. There are also several springbok mounted on the walls as well. The atmosphere is very manly, but it is not so overly done that a group of girls wanting a night out would not have just as much fun there.
There is a long bar with multiple television screens throughout the dining area so you could go in for lunch, go to watch your favorite sport, or go have dinner and drinks with friends. They are now serving lunch and dinner from the hours of 11 am to 2 am.
We were able to taste several of their menu items and to say I was blown away is an understatement. I have never really had much curry, because of course most places don’t know how to do curry well. The lamb curry with mango chutney made me a believer in curries. It melted in my mouth and hit every taste bud. The chicken kabob with pineapple was also a table favorite. And don’t think they don’t also have desserts too that will tempt your taste buds.
I can’t wait to go back and really try more of their menu items since they have now rolled out their full menu. Along with their variety of bar drinks, The Springbok Houston will become a new Houston favorite spot. Check out The Springbok Houston on Facebook to see specials and happenings!
