Getting the weekly reminders for the remaining time until the Chevron Houston Marathon has for the longest given me a huge anxiety attack, but this last month I have been excited every time I see that number go down getting closer to the date when I will run my first marathon. Seriously just three weeks to go until I can call myself a marathoner. I still can’t believe I am saying that. It has been on my bucket list ever since I started running that one day I would run just one marathon.
This has been an interesting journey to even get this close, but I am gaining my confidence and desire to accomplish my goal more and more as the days near. After completing the Kia 30K a couple of weeks ago, that was my stepping stone in to the realization that I really could do this. I could accomplish this goal that I set out to do at the beginning of the year. My struggle with nutrition and finding the right products that I could take before and during running seems to be worked out. Now I haven’t perfected it, but my last several runs have been going better and better. This is giving me a huge confidence booster that in just three weeks I will conquer all 26.2 miles even if I wind up walking most of it. I am ok with that fact. I am ok knowing that I don’t have to be super fast, what matters is that I will finish.
Unfortunately I got a nasty cut on the top of my pinky toe so my training will have to be a bit different until it heals since it hurts like the dickens to put a shoe on. Gotta love when a Walmart shopping cart comes in contact with your toe…… My plan is to get on my stationary bike without shoes on so that I can get movement and my stamina going without the pounding on my feet.
So I want to know what tips or tricks you have for completing a marathon? So far I have only made it to 18.6 miles… Not nearly as far as I was hoping to be by now, but hopefully with some consistency and focus over the next couple of weeks I can get through this. What do you use for fuel? Hydration? Gear? Help this newbie out!! With just three weeks to go I need to be as ready as I can possibly be!!
