This is a sponsored post on behalf of Follet and the #FallBackToSchool campaign. All thoughts are my own.
My second baby is now in Kindergarten. She has had almost a full month of school now and it has gone so much smoother than I ever thought it would. See with my son I had no clue what to expect when it came to public school and how it functioned. I want to share with you some tips for getting your preschooler ready for Kindergarten. I have used these for both of my kids and I have to say with the second one it went so much better than the first go around.
-If you can get them in to some sort of preschool or mothers day out, do it. Especially for my daughter who is extremely shy, putting her in a preschool for three years got her more comfortable being around other adults that were not family. We started with her going two days a week and worked up to 4, so now that she is in 5 day Kinder she is more prepared for the hours and that she could trust other adults.
-Try to visit the school multiple times before the school year so that you and your child can become familiar with the layout of the school and the teachers/staff who work there. I started working in the PTA last year, so my daughter was up there a lot with me. She got to see where she would eventually be going to school and become familiar with faces that would be around her everyday.
-Buy work books and start teaching them how to write and read. The earlier you can get them learning the better. This is where a good preschool or MDO program can also be beneficial. It also bring to mind the idea of whether the quality of teaching or technology resources available to kids in schools is more important. Check out what Follet was able to find out.
-Go over the routine of a school day with your child the weeks leading up to the start of school. Get them to bed earlier, have them get up and get dressed like they would be heading off to school.
Going to school whether for Kindergarten or any other year is never easy. Learning to be flexible and supportive of your child and the teacher they get as well as preparing them for it the weeks leading up to it is best. I am so happy that my kids like their school, like their teachers, and are ready to learn. Another little tip I have is volunteer wherever you can. Whether in the classroom, on PTA, or even doing projects at home, you will show your kids that you are around and will help them be comfortable in their school environment. It has helped me ease my own worries so that I know the staff and have greater insights in to my kids time at school.
