Updating our master bedroom closet

We have been in our house for almost 2 1/2 years. Wow has it really been that long??!! Since we bought a house that is a foreclosure there was a lot that we had to fix.We have been taking the projects slowly as we get money to complete them. Hopefully it will all be finished by the time we have the house paid off 🙂 One such place was our master bedroom closet. While the closet is a good size, the previous owners ripped out a lot of the shelving units. We were left with some shelves behind the door where we put our towels and two rows of shelves to hang some clothes, but that was it.

We had two books cases that we wound up using for shelves and an old dresser of mine so that I had somewhere to put my clothes. There was also some nasty carpet in there too. For Christmas all I wanted was to finally get to updating our master bedroom closet. We decided to go with the same flooring that we had in our living room. It is a handscraped laminate that we got from Home Depot. It is a wider plank that I love and dark hickory.

The trick first was unloading all the clothes and massive bookcases. It was crazy how much room they really took up in the closet. After everything was cleared out, hubs got to work on the flooring. Since he had already done the living room floor, he was able to power through the closet floor in a couple hours. That change alone made the room feel warmer and more cozy.

The storage/shelving units we found at Lowe’s. They have several sizes that you can choose from to fit a variety of closet and storage needs. We went with two of the bigger ones they offered and also bought two of the drawer units. Since we were getting rid of my dresser, I needed to add some drawers. They were simple enough to put together that I brought out my pink tools and assembled them myself.

With a simple rug, mirror and canvas print from Target along with an ottoman we already had our closet was complete. We also found a  It felt so much more roomy and we still had plenty of storage for clothes and things. We may one day get cabinets that stack on top of the other ones so that we have more closed in storage, but for now this works well. It is so peaceful and clean that I hid from the kids for a bit… haha

I can’t wait to show you the next project we tackled. It is not 100% finished but a vast improvement over what it was!!

Do you have any other suggestions on ways to improve our closet?
