I think one of my biggest hindrances to working out or running outside is being by myself and no one knows where I am. When I was running all the time, the only time I went outside was if my husband was home and he knew my route. There are just too many not good people in this world that prey especially on women who are vulnerable out on a run. There are products though that can be useful and what women SHOULD take on a run for safety. I am going to share some that were sent to me from SABRE and others that I really love.

what women should take on a run

What Women SHOULD Take on a Run

  • Phone. This should be number one. I know you may not want to be weighed down with a phone, but it is a huge asset that you should not be without. If you ever get hurt, you can be tracked by family members with the FindMyPhone app. If you have an iPhone, get that app! You can’t make a call to someone if you don’t have your phone.
  • Water. Carrying water can be bulky and cumbersome, but if you live in a hot climate like I do water is a must. Don’t get dehydrated and it can also be used for cuts you may get or falls that may happen.

sabre-pepper-spray

  • Pepper Spray. No you don’t have to carry a big can on pepper spray. SABRE makes products just like the phone holders where you can hold in your hand some pepper spray. As a woman you should always have pepper spray with you even not while running. All you have to do is wrap the straps around your hand. The pepper spray is close and ready to use. The Pepper Gel they offer has UV marking dye in it as well!

sabre-personal-alarm

  • Runner Personal Alarm. I hadn’t really thought about something like this before, but it is smart. If you run on trails farther away from the main streets, this alarm will be heard up to 1000 feet away.

When you can’t run with a buddy, these are just a few items of what women should take on a run. It is best to be smart and vigilant while you run. Try not to go by yourself or on far away trails, stay where there is lots of other runners and foot traffic. Yes I know that this isn’t always possible to run when other people are, but this list of products are just a few things that you should add to your person so that you are prepared and as safe as possible. Also, don’t turn your music too loud that you can’t hear if someone is approaching you from behind.

SABRE has lots of products that are meant to keep you safe in many situations and I love that they have some tailored to people who are active. Take the time to make sure you are safe any time you leave the house!
