When you see the small little thing pull up in your driveway you can’t help but want to go zip zooming in the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. My daughter loves when I get a two seater because she knows that we will be able to go out with just the two of us. I like that I can get some time in a spunky car without having 5 kids with me. The MX-5 is not necessarily a practical car when you have kids, as my husband says it could be my weekend car. More like it could be my “I just dropped the kids at school and can run errands in style” kind of car.
There doesn’t seem to be a ton of changes from the previous model year, but enough that I took notice. There is just slightly more knee space for the passenger as they took out the glove box and put a small version in between the seats by your shoulder. This could be good and bad as it limits what you keep in your glove box and forces you to keep only the essentials, but it also makes it hard to “hide” anything that you may want to except for in the trunk.
The placement of the cup holders is a bit strange. I understand that there is limited space especially when it is a manual transmission and you need the space to be able to shift gears and don’t want to have a drink in your way. You almost have to have your drink in the opposite cup holder than you normally would so that you can cross arms to get the one you need.
With only a few flaws here and there, most that can’t be avoided because of the small nature of the vehicle, I still have an absolute blast zip zooming around in it. The convertible top is so easy to put up and down with just the flip of a switch and push it on back into place. I like that there are no electronic parts to this one as there is less to wait for or break. I am all for automating a lot of things, but sometimes that automation just gets in the way.
Now don’t let the small size fool you. The trunk is surprisingly large enough for weekly groceries for my family and a few other errands. Of course the bags will all be piled on top of each other, but it holds plenty.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 will give you the zip zooming time that you expect from a smaller lightweight vehicle. Pop that top down and go for a long Sunday drive, or clear your mind of the stresses of the day. Amazing ow a car can do that for you! I am loving how they brought the exterior of the vehicle in with the door panel color and material. It sets it apart than regular doors and just adds one more style feature to make me love this car even more. You can’t go wrong with the MX-5 when you want something smaller that can make for a fun ride.
