Just looking at the 2017 Kia Sportage you will notice the slight funky shape and design of the front grill. It is not funky in a bad way, but rather a quirky kind of look. I wasn’t sure I was completely in love with it, but the look grew on me throughout the week of driving this funky little number. I love the way that Kia is going with many of their designs and features. The 2017 Kia Sportage is one that is noticeable and brings a “not-your-standard” type of feel to the smaller SUV market.
The layout and seating make this SUV feel like you are riding in a larger vehicle. Kia is smart in that they give you plenty of head and legroom by making their vehicles deep and tall on the inside. They maximize the height and the wells where your legs are situated so that even though the length of the vehicle may be smaller, you do not feel cramped riding in the backseat. The center console is well thought out in the placement of drink holders and gear shift. The buttons for all the various features are within reach and easily found throughout the whole front console and dashboard as well as on the wheel.
I particularly like when a vehicle really of any size has parking assist sensors. With kids in tow, blind spots, and awkward angles you can’t always see just how close you are when parking or turning around a corner. The 2017 Kia Sportage offers the parking alert sensors all around the vehicle to aid in getting in those tight spots of garage parking. Lord knows kids can be distracting when you are trying to back out of a spot, so rear view cameras are a must. I like that most vehicles it is becoming a standard feature.
The 2017 Kia Sportage had several drive modes that I was able to test out as this one was an AWD version as well as the SX Turbo. The sport mode was a a blast and this fun and funky vehicle was read to roll. If you drive in a lot of stop and go traffic, the eco mode was perfect and got decent gas mileage. It is not a heavy vehicle so it was easy to drive and was comfortable.
The cargo space was awesome for a smaller vehicle. The upgrades of leather and chrome accents gave this vehicle a sporty look that I would be just fine with rocking on an everyday basis. Kia does a great job with their vehicles and if this 2017 Kia Sportage is any clue, the 2017 line will be fun. This vehicle has everything you would be looking for in a family vehicle. You can get the functionality of an SUV on a slightly smaller scale with a price tag that can work within your budget.
