Summer can be so incredibly busy and with kids and trips, it can also be kind of expensive. The kids are home more, so they wind up eating a lot more!! The electricity is on a lot more!! The water is on a lot more!! So I want to share some budget friendly summer birthday ideas with Hallmark cards and Walmart.
My dad’s birthday is next week and he gets the shaft sometimes when it comes to celebrating his birthday. We are usually tapped out on resources by the end of summer with taking trips, doing day adventures, and just trying to keep the kids entertained. Plus with school coming soon, we have already started back to school shopping which winds up taking even more of our resources, but this year thanks to Walmart and Hallmark, I was able to get plenty or his birthday even on a budget.
Here are a few ideas-
Have your kids make their own art to give as a gift. I go to Michaels whenever they have their sales on canvases and purchase them for use throughout the year. The kids can get creative and do their own paintings for whoever has the birthday. My son did one of his Pops and they also painted a picture frame that I got for less than a $1 at Michaels too. It is a great keepsake and didn’t cost much.
Make your own treats. Sure it is easy to just pick up some treats at the store, but if you make it yourself then the person receiving it will know that you put more time in it than just a store run. It doesn’t have to look professional as long as it tastes good. Walmart carries the treat boxes for way cheaper than you can get at other box stores. This helps spruce up your treats if maybe they don’t look as good as the box says they would 🙂
Pick up Hallmark Value Cards at Walmart. At only $.47 and $.97 per card, you can write out your greetings of love and celebration for super cheap. While I was there, I went ahead and picked up lots o value cards so that I would have them on hand since I am notorious for forgetting birthdays. They even had some cute “Thinking of You” and “Grandparent’s Day” cards that will come in handy. There are many times I don’t buy a card because of how expensive they can be. Now I no longer have that excuse with Hallmark Value Cards. I also earn points for each card I buy to redeem for prizes!!
Get just a few decorations. I am pretty sure my dad doesn’t need coordinating napkins, plates, and everything else for his birthday. So I thought it would be fun to just pick up a couple of streamers to decorate his home office as well as some balloons. It is just enough things that will make him feel special and only cost me $3!!
So if you have someone with a summer birthday or really a birthday any time of the year, it doesn’t have to cost hundreds of dollars. You can do it on a budget with Walmart and Hallmark Value cards. Their card ideas are so fun and just perfect. And if you sign up for the Hallmark Card Rewards program, you will earn points to use towards things that will save you even more money while you celebrate.
What ideas can you share that will help us all have budget summer(or any time) birthdays?
