I have Italian in my blood and could seriously eat Italian food everyday if it was ok. Especially my moms spaghetti sauce. I seriously love that stuff and went through a crockpot full in about two weeks time. Yes, she made me a WHOLE crockpot full just for me because I love it so much. It kinda spoiled me to most red sauces.

So there is no doubt that I love Italian even when it comes down to dessert. My fav of all time is the cannoli! Luscious creamy filling (hopefully mixed with mini chocolate chips) piped into a crispy shell. Divine with every bite! But now that I can’t really eat gluten (though I do at times, and pay for it later) I still crave a cannoli often.

Within the last couple of weeks, I remembered that my hubby used to work at an Italian restaurant and he made this dip for me at home that reminded me of cannoli cream. It is one of the easiest things to make and is so utterly good.

I went out and bought the mascarpone cheese, but kept forgetting to ask hubby what else I needed. I remembered ricotta cheese so I picked up some of that at the store….. a week goes by and I finally remember to ask him. Last night we finally had our yummy, creamy, divine Italian inspired dessert dip…

Oh would you like the recipe?

Should I?

Should I share?

Well, here ya go 🙂 From my kitchen to yours!

Easy Italian Inspired Dessert Dip

8 oz. container mascarpone cheese
8 oz. ricotta
2 cups powdered sugar (may need more depending upon how sweet you like it)
2-4 oz. heavy cream

Yes that is all the ingredients and yes it is the best and most versatile dessert dip.

Add the cheese to a stand mixer along with the powdered sugar. Mix until sugar has melted in, then add at first 2 oz. of heavy cream. If you want the dip a little more runny or smooth than you can add more cream. Or if you want it a little sweeter, add more powdered sugar. This is a time when you can really make it your own.

Variations:
Top with toasted coconut and chocolate chips
Sprinkles with cinnamon and a drizzle of honey
Top with chopped nuts
Mix in slightly crushed berries

Really the additions to this dip are endless. I love to take cut of fruit and dip away. You can also use cookies, cookie sticks….

This is great for a party. You can make the basic Italian Inspired Dessert Dip, then lay out various toppers for a dessert bar as well as having lots of dippers like fruit or cookies.

Make sure you pin this recipe so that you can come back to it time and again for a quick week night dessert or for your next party!
