I was given a free race entry in exchange for this review. All thoughts and fun had are my own!
I had heard about foam/mud/obstacle races before, but have yet to do one… until now… I can now officially say I have added it to my list of accomplishments. This was a last minute sign up so to say the least I didn’t “train” for it. But it was just a 5K.. I can do this… Foam Fest 5K!
One good thing about these kind of races is that it has different wave times so that you are not trying to go over obstacles with hundreds of other people. I opted for around 11 in the morning, because lets face it most races are wayyyyy too early in the morning so if I could do it a little later all the better.
Checking in was easy, you just sign your life away, I mean sign a waiver because you can get hurt if you are being stupid, wait for your wave time to start, then go have fun.
At the start line, we were immediately showered with foam and mud! What a better way to start a race then by getting muddy and bubbly. The race was held at a racing track so needless to say there were a lot of hills and turns and curves and places where ankles could easily be turned. I thought I might run most of it, but wound up walking because this momma is a clumsy and last thing I needed was a hurt ankle or more.
We went through various obstacles like rope climb, pond crossing, inflatable climbing, and a wall climb just to name a few. It is funny how doing a race like this can change you. I have always had those little voices saying oh you can skip this, you won’t have any fun, or that will be too hard for you to do. And you know what, I conquered those voices. I made myself do all of the obstacles. I got dirty. I got foamy. And I loved it. I actually loved it. The obstacles that I thought I couldn’t climb, I easily did.
The best part was the very end where you climb a big inflatable slide and slide down all muddy, wet, and foamy! I think my headband from Bondi Band was the perfect mantra for me that day!
If you couldn’t make the Houston race, don’t worry… There are lots more all over the country. Check out the schedule and when you sign up, use my code FF5232 and become a Foam Fanatic with me! If you use my code I do get rewards, so help a girl out so I can run some more races π
One of a couple of bruises. This one hurt for a couple of days. Not sure what I did it on, but it was worth it! So fun π |
What a fun race! I'm so with you on race start times – I could get way, way into starting at 11am instead of 6am. π
So fun! I'm running the New England foam 5k in 2 weeks! Can't wait!
Love it, can't wait to do mine in August!
