My son is starting to really get in to reading and having an iPad for him to be able to practice on has been fabulous. I have downloaded a lot of reading apps lately so I was more than happy to test out a new app by Hullabalu which is called Pan: The Fearless Beribolt. The app tells of Pandora the purple panda who lives in the clouds and her adventures as she tries to find her family.
The Beribolts have made the clouds their home. When Pan was newborn her parents were sent off to find out why the clouds were changing and they never returned. Pan did not know the truth about where her parents were. Pan goes on many adventures where she learns some life lessons and consequences for her actions.
The app is very interactive. You can have the app read the story to your kids while they explore each page and complete tasks. I like that it is not just a basic story reading app. You get the story, but the kids also get to interact with the characters. I think this helps your kids really get to know the characters and makes the story more relevant besides just being read to. You can turn off the narration on the story and use that time to teach your kids to read the story out loud and practice their word skills.
My son did not want to put the iPad down when I showed him the new app. He liked being able to touch the screen and hear the characters say more and also be able to do fun activities like throwing boomerangs at the clouds.
I hope that they come out with updates to the story soon. My kids want to hear where Pan goes on her next adventure as she seeks out her parents!!!
You can find Pan: The Fearless Beribolt for the iPad in the App store. Also stay up to date on the Hullabalu Facebook Page.
