We don’t go out to eat near as often as we would probably like to go. With just buying a house, having two young kids and many other factors we just don’t have the extra $$ to splurge on eating out. After all, who wouldn’t want someone else to cook for them AND clean up??!!
I was invited out along with other fellow Houston Bloggers to go to Joe’s Crab Shack and learn about their steam pots as well as drinks and desserts that they offer. When I heard seafood I was all over it!! We rarely get to eat seafood, but my husband and I both LOVE it!!
George Atsangbe, who is the Culinary Director, was our main speaker at the Lunch and Learn. We learned about what Joe’s Crab Shack has to offer, where they source some of their food, and how they go about deciding what they are going to put on the menu next. He also showed us how to open crab with all the tools they offer and we got a sneak preview of some items that will be on the fall menu!!
Hey, did you know that lobster has fewer calories than chicken?
We were lucky enough to be able to try out their many different varieties of steam pots. The steam pots are by far the best choice when it comes to choosing “What will I have for dinner tonight?”. They have about 8 varieties of pots to choose from and are adding more and changing them out often. All pots come with corn and potatoes that are sourced locally to help support the community in where the restaurant is. What is great about them is that each pot has a different combo on crab, shrimp, mussels, crab and sausage to suite your tastes then they come with different flavorings as well. My favorite was the KJ. The scallops that were inside were so delicious and has just a hint of the wine flavor. If you like spicy, the Ragin’ Cajun would be the pot for you. The pots range from about $18.99 to $38.99(depending upon where you live).
We also got to sample some of the drinks that Joe’s offers. They have some fabulous drinks including the Twisted Cherry Limeade, Sweet Tea and Strawberry Comfort just to name a few. For you non-fruity drink people, they even offer PBR and Blue Moon.
To end this fabulous Lunch and Learn, we got to try their Berry Cobbler. It is only available for a couple more weeks, so if you want to try it, you better go now. Coming from a baker, I have to say it was sooooo good. By the time we ate it, the ice cream had melted and made a delicious sauce for the cobbler. It is more of a cake like cobbler, but every bit was divine. And for all you carrot cake lovers out there…At the end of August they will be adding a Caramel Carrot Cake to the menu. Let me just say… Oh no, you just need to try it that is if you aren’t stuffed full of seafood like we were 🙂
I do want to point out that Joe’s Crab Shack is making an effort to make their kids meals just a bit more than chicken fingers and fries. They now have color coded options on the menu for kids to be able to choose main entree, side, drink and dessert. They even have other options for fruits and veggies for your kids to choose like celery with ranch, applesauce, corn as well as veggies and fries.
If you are in the mood for some seafood, checkout Joe’s Crab Shack and their steam pots to get your fix.

I was lucky enough to win a gift card while at the luncheon, but no other compensation took place. All opinions are my own. Thanks Joe’s Crab Shack for having me out that day!
