Running has become my outlet. It has been my way of fighting back against a disease that has become all too familiar of a word in our everyday vocabulary. Cancer has become so prevalent that it just makes me sick on so many levels. But thankfully I was able to overcome it and have gotten back in to racing and slowly building my strength more and more each day.
I have tested out my physical limits by participating in (so far) 4 half marathons this year with several more scheduled throughout the rest of the year and even a full marathon scheduled for January. Am I crazy?? Just a bit. But I like having a goal. Something that I can work towards and push my broken body just a little more each day.
Triathlons are not really on my radar for something I want to attempt, because I am not really a swimming type person, but it would be cool to maybe one day make it a goal of mine to say that I have raced in one. Maybe one day I will step out of my comfort zone even more and push this body where I never thought I could actually take it.
Think you might want to sign up for one soon and are in the Houston and surrounding areas? Maybe you should sign up for the Clear Lake International & Sprint Triathlon. 7th Annual Clear Lake International Triathlon on Saturday, August 23, 2014 with a location and host hotel-South Shore Harbor Resort & Marina in League City, Texas.
You can sign up for the International Distance or Sprint. Either seem like fairly doable distances. Please note that you will have to have a USAT license to participate so that will be an added cost on top of race cost.
So what ways have you overcomed obstacles? Have you ran in a race that you never thought you could actually go that distance? Have you just stepped out of your comfort zone to accomplish a goal that made you feel awesome afterward? Try it one of these days. You never know what you are truly capable of accomplishing!!
