I received compensation for my part in reviewing this product for MomSelect. All thoughts and opinions are my own of the Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App.

The Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App takes a classic story and puts it in a new era and life by bringing the newly orphaned boy from Russia to live with his hippie grandfather in LA. Over time Peter becomes friends with the animals around him including a duck since he has a hard time making real friends. The app takes you on a journey from how he hears about the wolf on the loose in LA, builds a robot to try and catch the wolf, then later uses his ingenuity to capture the wolf. This app is a very interesting take on the story and combines classical music with the voice over from Alice Cooper to give the story a creepy weird vibe. Honestly I think I almost liked the making behind the story versus the actual story itself. The whole thing runs about 50 minutes which is a bit long for keeping kids interested especially when a lot of it is classical music and only partially animated scenes. Like I said the making of it was almost more interesting to see how they took handpainted figures and backgrounds to create each scene and wove that in with computer animation to bring the story to life.

Alice Cooper definitely brings an interesting tone to the voice over reading of the story. He matches with the darkness of the story and where they were trying to go with this app. There are several interactive games in the story that do help draw the attention back for the kids. Putting together the robot was by far the favorite one of them all. I see where they were trying to go with this app and story by bringing in the classical music and styling, but it may have been a bit over my kids heads. They were more interested in the games then listening to the whole story. For those who are really into classical music and wants their kids to be introduced to this story then you will really like this app. The Deluxe iPad version of Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood App is only $4.99.
