My husband’s family gets together every other year or so to do a big family vacation. As most of the nieces and nephews gets older, it gets harder to schedule time that we can all be in the same place. This year we decided on a weekend down to Galveston that is about 1.5 hours from us. We love going down to visit Galveston for day trips. It is just far enough away to feel like a mini vacation. Going down for a day or several days requires lots of food and beach accessories. The 2016 Toyota Rav4 Limited that we drove down held all of our essentials and was a comfortable ride for a beach vacation.
The look of the Toyota Rav4 has made many changes over the last few years. The pointed nose is an interesting feature that I am not 100% sure that I like, but the overall look is not bad. The Toyota Rav4 Limited has an overall general appeal that I can see a lot of families liking. It has become a bit bigger from previous versions which I like. It had ample room inside for all of our beach gear and provided ample legroom for me and the kids. We were staying at a beach house so we had to take almost our whole fridge. Three suitcases, several of my Thirty-One large utility totes, thermal totes, and lots of beach gear fit all into the back cargo area. I had to play some pretty tricky Jenga with all of it, but it fit!
The interior dual tone leather was comfortable and gave the inside a nice look. I wasn’t in love with the leather color in this version as I would just prefer a black leather, but it was great for kids. The shift knob was a shiny metallic that let me tell you gets crazy hot in summer weather in Texas. I think a leather wrapped shift knob would have been a much better choice. The interior wasn’t overdone, but still had nice upgrades. I am always a fan of having sunroofs as are my kids. The Toyota Rav4 Limited is a great smaller family SUV that can be used for family vacations without compromising style or size.
The ride was fairly smooth as we drove along the Seawall and back and forth to the other beach houses. I was averaging about 25 mpg during my week, which is about what I would expect with the size of vehicle and the routes we drove. The 360 degree cameras helped me see even when we had piled too much stuff in the cargo area blocking the rear view camera. The images were clear and not too grainy.I wasn’t 100% sure that the 2016 Toyota Rav4 Limited would work for our family beach vacation. Throughout the week it proved itself to me more and more that it is a fantastic vehicle without a hefty price tag. It is one to consider when you want the feel of an SUV without going too large.
