After having such a rough year last year, it is so nice to be able to start finding myself again and getting back in to shape with healthy choices. Over the summer I started working with a trainer two days a week and have seen a huge improvement in my energy levels and my strength. This has given me a chance to make new goals for myself. I have signed up for a marathon!! Holy wow…. So I wanted to give you a little view of a day in my life as I train for this marathon over the next couple of months.
On Friday night I started to prep for the next day because I had two races. I somehow accidentally signed up for a race in the morning and a race in the evening. At least they started about 12 hours apart so I had time to rest in between. I was going to need some fuel and water so I headed to Walgreens to pick up a couple of things. They have vitamin waters, coconut water(great for hydration), as well as other juices that are perfect for before and after running. I also found a good variety of nuts and trail mixes to help give me the protein I need. I got some pistachios so I could have a little salt and protein combo in one.
The next morning I woke up around 5:45 to get ready for my race that started at 7 am. Man these early morning runs are tough. I didn’t wind up eating nearly enough, but made sure that I at least had enough to drink. It is hard for me to eat that early in the morning. The race was crazy hot. I ran fast(for me) for the first mile and in to the second mile, I started to get a headache so I had to slow down to a fast walk. My final time was 1:21 for the 6.2 miles.
I was sweating so much after that I was happy to have some cold water and an apple. I also had my pistachios in the car from Walgreens, perfect healthy choice to refuel. I tried to rest as much as I could the rest of the day because I had another 5K to run that night.
The night one was more of a fun run, the Foam Fest 5K. I will say that I will never do this one again. While it is a fun concept, there were wayyyyy tooo many people there and it took a long time just to get to the start line. Oh and I still have pink hair from it.. Not that I mind, but not exactly what I wanted to take away from it 🙂
Want to know what made up for me getting pink hair and getting all hot and sweaty from being outside for so long? I was able to earn rewards points from Walgreens with their Balance Rewards healthy choices feature. I connected my MyFitnessPal app with my Balance Rewards account. For each activity I log, like two races, I earn points that can be used at Walgreens. I earned 120 points for the mileage I logged!! Pretty cool if you ask me. Â If you happen to own a Jawbone or FitBit, you can connect those accounts so your sleep and steps can be automatically sent to the Balance Rewards app for tracking purposes.
I can’t wait to see how many points I can earn besides just shopping in the store. It is a great motivator and if I am doing those activities anyway than I might as well be rewarded for it. You can also earn for making goals for yourself: pounds to lose, how many steps, how often you workout.. So what will your goal be? What activity will you do to earn points?
Download the Walgreens App, sign up for the healthy choices section, start earning points with the healthy goals you set for yourself.
