There you are wanting to get some food quickly that is good, but doesn’t taste like a huge grease ball. Enter Pollo Tropical, it is definitely not your average “fast” food place. First started in Florida, this chain is slowly starting to debut here in Texas with one store already open in Addison. There are plans for at least two more Houston based stores, but I am sure hoping that they decide on more(like in Kingwood)!
From first step in the door you feel like you are welcomed in to a Caribbean restaurant down on the islands. An escape from the everyday bland boring restaurant and in to some place you would like to call home. Give me some sand, surf, a fruity drink, and free wifi and I am happy!
Pollo Tropical is a wonderful blend of Caribbean marinades and styles of cooking. The chicken is marinated in their citrus concoction for 24 hours before it is cooked, helping the flavor sink down to the very bone. It is cooked to perfection and you can taste the love and time in every bite. Pair it with one of their fabulous sauces and you can transform the chicken into something that is uniquely your own.
Don’t forget the sides. They have three types of rice, plantains, yuca, green beans, and a delightful corn souffle… I was drooling on the table a bit just with the side dishes. Oh and they haven’t forgotten about desserts either. The guava cheesecake melts in your mouth and don’t even get me started on the tres leches 🙂 And for us Texas folks they have rolled out Calypso Beef.
You can really taste the freshness in their dishes. They make everything in house so that right there is a huge differentiating factor compared to other food places. I love the concept in that you feel like you are getting a home cooked meal, but don’t have to wait for 30-45 minutes for it to show up at your table. They do have drive through windows, so take some home to the family and pretend like you slaved all day in the kitchen 🙂
