2017 has come to a close and we are now fully in 2018. This year will come with big changes for our family that all started with a yes. Through this one yes, I am learning, in some ways, to say no to things but in a lot of ways say yes. Some ways I am saying yes in the New Year is to myself. I am saying yes to getting back on track with my health, yes to new work from home opportunities, and yes to focusing on my family. As I sit here with a steaming bowl of soup, I am going to take time to reflect on the past year and see where in the future I can say yes.
Saying Yes to Health
Saying yes to health is not always an easy one to start. I admit I put my health and healthy living on the back burner last year and gained more weight than I care to say. I used to run religiously and felt so amazing when I did. How I am changing things for the new year is getting back into a workout routine. I don’t have any excuse really when I have a treadmill and stationary bike in my room. I am setting a timer on my phone to go off each day and spend 30 minutes either on the bike or treadmill. I don’t have to spend two hours working out. 30 minutes of movement each day is doable.
The second part of saying yes to health is food choices. It is so easy as a busy soccer mom to get sucked into foods that are quick and easy to take with you. I am realizing though that good foods can be just as quick and portable. I have recently discovered Well Yes!® soups made with nutritious ingredients, like chicken meat with no antibiotics, sweet potatoes, kale, and quinoa. They are crafted with care and have ingredients that do not contain artificial flavors and colors. Knowing that I can have soups like Well Yes! that can get me back on track with what I am eating and not just settling for what I can grab on the go with the kids. I can heat the soup up before I head out, put in one of the insulated cups or even an insulated coffee cup and have as I sit by the soccer field. Pack a piece of fruit, some water, or cheese stick and then I am set.
Saying Yes to New Work
Funny thing is both my husband and I are saying yes to new work. His is a little more dramatic of a change so much so that we will be moving to a whole new state. It is a chance for our family to experience new cities and visit with family that was a bit too far before to see often if at all. It is a huge change that will help further his career and mean amazing opportunities for our family. I am saying yes to a new at home job position. This will still allow me to help our family financially as well as let me have the flexibility to be available for my kids. I am realizing that it is okay to step away from things you have done for so long to try new and exciting ventures.
Saying Yes to Focusing on Family
We often get so focused on the busy busy schedules. Yes I am out there with my family at the soccer field each day, but how often do we just focus on actual family time where we sit and talk or do a fun outing. It is also realizing that at dinner time we should take that time to reconnect and really be invested in hearing how each person’s day went. Dig a little deeper than just “How was your day” type questions. I look forward to more conversations with my kids as they grow older.
Saying yes in the new year can mean different things to people. These are just a few of the things that I hope to be saying yes to in the new year.
