It is rodeo time here in Houston. This last week was the second week of shows with one more to go. I love going to the rodeo. Seeing all the animals, calf scramble, and so many other things. And let’s not forget about the food. I can’t eat much of it now due to allergies, but the turkey legs, BBQ, funnel cakes, and fried everything are oh so very tempting. I love being able to take my kids too and if you just go to the livestock show and carnival then it can be cheaper than going to the concert.
Adults are $10 and kids are $5. Though the kids don’t get to see the actual rodeo part of the festivities, going to the livestock show and carnival sure is plenty to keep you busy for hours.
Since this last week was my kids Spring Break and we hadn’t done much thanks to days on end of rain, I decided to take them to the livestock show to get them out of the house for a bit.
I guess I have rubbed off on them a bit because they wanted to get in the Ford cars first 🙂
We then went around to the chicks being hatched. The petting zoo line was pretty long so we went to where there was a rabbit exhibit. The kids could read about different kinds of rabbits and at the end they could pet them. The giant ones are so stinking cute. I just want to use it as my cuddle buddy!
After walking around for a bit we were all hungry. The kids got a corn dog on a stick and some pizza while I got some nachos with spicy beef fajita meat. Man was it good.
Next up was some carnival time. I was able to take my nephew on an elephant ride that went up in the air a bit. “We fwying” was all he kept saying. “Wook Mommy we fwying”.
Then my kids wanted to go on the Ferris Wheel. I haven’t been on one in years…I used to love roller coasters, but I think my equilibrium is not what it used to be. When they stopped us at the very top to load more people, I was ready to get off. My son freaked out as well. He is the biggest daredevil when he wants to do something himself and he is in control, but being on this huge wheel where he had no control, he was not happy. It was hard for me to comfort him when I truthfully wanted off too. Once it got moving around it was easier to stomach. And it was pretty cool to be as tall at the Astrodome!
By then we were all wiped out. It is a lot of walking to go down there, but worth it to make memories with the kids.
Fun times!
